Mandibular advancement devices are oral Medical Devices that are recommended for management of Sleep Related Breathing Disorders like Snoring, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome and others. When used during sleep, they help to place mandible and tongue in a forward position, thereby removing obstruction in the pharyngeal spaces and opening up airway and facilitating better air flow during sleep. The effectiveness of oral devices in treating snoring, obstructive sleep apnea and UARS has been well documented. Since these devices are custom made, comfortable and convenient to use, a higher compliance rate has also been reported with oral appliances. The 2015 clinical guidelines by American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine have proposed usage of oral appliance as an approved therapy for Snoring and Sleep Apnea.
